In today’s class we moved further with our eighth week project – the timeline. At his point of time, we were finalizing our aspects and starting the research. In today’s class, as mam discussed it in more detail, and cleared all our doubts regarding it..we got a head start for the project. In addition to the books mam got for us to refer to, we all also got a lot of books from the library and exchanged them. I was initially quite muddled but today i gained a clarity about which period of history we were considering for the project, what was the extent of that period, which civilizations it included and what kind of developments it brought about. I got really engrossed in reading the books and the encyclopedia which gave me an idea of the evolution and the general timeline of events and civilizations through the prehistoric times till about 500 AD. I also read more about the division of and categorization of history into different periods and on what basis it was done. i also got a recap of the fall of roman empire in 5th century AD and the renaissance. As i tried to figure out the categorization of history, I faced the following challenges:
- there were many different types of categorization which overlapped
- the dates and timeline differed across the sources as there were different interpretations
- the timeline also differed from place to place
After reading up from different sources and combining different information this is what i roughly deduced.
I got to know about a lot of new empires and their significance. Though i had some topics in my mind, by going through the books i found an abundance of possible topics and checked which ones were discussed more. However, i didn’t want to chose a topic that was very common or easy to research upon.. and finalized “trade“.
