imaging (8&9)

During the seventh and eighth week I was working on the layout of my booklet.I did not stick to my original idea and the rough sketch I had made for it. I started my layout with illustrating my cover page in Photoshop. For that, I downloaded a picture of a door half open and completely transformed it. I wanted a door on my cover page as one of my cities is a city of doors and I also wanted to show through it that you were entering into this world full of illusions.

On the back cover I added a closed door. I tried to add a glow effect on the front and back pages which I had learned in the last semester.

Once I did my cover page, I got a kick start as I found the theme I needed to follow. I chose the theme of circles and for my color scheme, I chose black as the base and further followed the colors that were on the cover page. I also customized the colors a bit and made background gradients on the basis of the content of the chapters and the essence of the city.

I scanned and illustrated my sketches on Photoshop and illustrator and placed them into colorful circles. Since I added random circles in all the pages, the layout for every page was different and this made it a bit more complicated. I used a lot of text wrap on every page which was a bit confusing in the beginning, but I gradually got hold of it. One problem I faced was: I used text wrap on the circles to separate it from the content text, but I wanted to write the topic on the circles which was not possible due to text wrap. I soon figured that I could do so by converting the text into object.

This project helped me develop my skills and gain confidence over indesign. I used a lot of techniques and tricks that were taught in the class before. I used text frame options to add text columns, edited document presets to have suitable margins, A-master to add numbering in the pages, grids and guide lines, drop cap, text alignment and justification (and hyphenate option) and a lot more.
