Time (10)

This week was all about watching the movies and studying them. I really have to say, these assignments make us do new things we probably never would have. These movies didn’t really turn out to be like I expected. Sure they are technologically backward and a lot different then movies today, but I sense some kind of simplicity and innocence in these movies which make them charming in their own way. In the beginning of the movie naya daur. I felt quite bored and uninterested due to its dull, rural setting but it turned out to be a very beautiful movie dealing with real life challenges and I found myself to gradually be quite engaged in the movie.

By the 10th week’s class on monday, I had watched 2 and half movies- Mughal-e-Azam, chalti ka naam gaadi, and naya daur. So, in this class we discussed about those movies and the elements we noticed. We talked about the role of woman in those movies.
From what I had heard, I believed that girls and woman in those times would have been quite suppressed. But these movies, in which woman were expressive, bold and involved, portrayed otherwise.
For every movie we saw, we made working notes in which we identified themes, messages, attributes of characters, roles etc.
We were also told to make mindmaps on each of these movies as the next step.
