In today’s class we were required to show our three city iterations to the faculty, however, many of us had’nt completed hence we did so in today’s class. I myself had completed only one.
The other two iterations took me quite long. I found difficulty finalize my concept. I had made a random list of ideas but was’nt satisfactory. I wanted my iterations to be my best work and thus i kept thinking and stressing a lot. My confusion and indecisiveness led me to such a delay. I would sit for hours in vain trying to finish the iterations. but the good thing was, i didnt go with my first instinct and gave it time.
Following is the first iteration I made. For this, my initial idea was completely different; but when I started to make a rough sketch to go forward with, I gradually came up with an entirely new idea and also added some new elements while making the final illustration.

This is a city with a unique gravitational force. Unlike earth it does’nt exist in the core of the planet but inside the soil, rocks and floating plateaus. Thus the plateaus here have life on all the four sides. The unique pink water also flows underneath the huge rocks. around which there is also an upside down civilization. Also, the water here allows a buoyancy so excellent, that even houses can be built on it. Being the city of rocks, the houses are rock shaped too. To travel from one place to the other, people use floating rock portals on which you once step on to, take you to the desired direction.
One of the ideas from the list I had made was “a city made up of the things and people you like”. At first I had’nt thought of going with it, because i thought it was too intangible to be drawn and also subjective. But all of a sudden i came up with a modification in the concept and a nice way of depicting it, i.e through specs.
Following this, there lied yet another challenge for me: what all elements to put and how to compose it. The specs in the centre made it difficult to compose as I had to make two completely different scenarios yet connect to one another. I had to adjust elements in a way that they made sense and helped dipict the concept. This illustration took me the longest to make. I composed 2-3 different rough sketches and scraped it. Moreover, it required a lot of details.

This is a city where you only see the objects and people you like. The others are either disappeared or modified. In this illustration, a contemporary urban city full of concrete & glass sky scrapers, has turned into a beautifully colorful traditional city in the eye of the viewer. The people he does’nt like have disappeared, the car has turned into a boat.
the medium used is – poster colors, water colors, alcohol markers and pens.
For the third illustration, I did already have a vague idea, but again, I made modifications as I began with it.

This is a city made up of doors. you cannot see anything else here except catwalks, ladders and stairs leading to more doorways. Well. the doors are everything you need in this city, because everything lies behind them. Some doors lead to lush green gardens while some are personal houses of people; some will take you anywhere you want.
