In today’s seminar class I understood that in terms of being creative, we needed to breakaway from the norms and not let our existing knowledge impede our new ideas.
Today I realized why exactly we were asked to make those thumbnails. The invisible cities is a perfect example of creativity and imagination. The author completely molded the concept of “city”, and presented the architecture and the intangible features in a mind boggling way. He created the impossible and made us imagine the unthinkable.
Thus, in the process of making visual representations of those descriptions, we would try to understand the content deeply, which would stimulate our imagination, and thus aid our next assignment.
The next task we were asked to do was to recreate a city out of our imagination. For this, we did a little exercise in the class. We all just spoke out the first and the wildest idea that came to our mind for our imaginary city.
This helped me open my mind and not be afraid of being too out of the box. We later came back to those ideas and envisioned more around that idea. Like, if one thing is in a particular way then how the other should be; and how will the city, as a whole, work if that particular idea existed.
