Today’s class was when we actually began with the subject matter. These two hours were loaded with a lot of information but it was pretty interesting for me since I got to revise what i studied in the previous years.
We first differentiated language and script. Language is what is spoken and script is the form in which it is written. One language can be written in multiple scripts, and inversely, a lot of languages are based on the same script. For eg, both sanskrit and hindi are written in the devnagri script. Although I did have an idea about it, this discussion made it completely clear to me.
We then began with the basic categorization of history as pre history, protohistory and history and the further division of pre-history as paleolothic, neolithic and chalcolithic. I had already learned about the characteristics and the developments in these periods before, but today, some new facts added to it, like those about Catal Huyuk, tell Quaremel and the jericho walls, which I found very fascinating.
