In todays class, we dove deeper into Indesign, and learned a lot of new techniques, tools, features and tips. We first discussed the parts of the interface i.e the tool bar, menu bar, option bar, the panels and the workspace. Wealso learned how we can customize the work space as per our comfort.
The most important and fascinating thing I learned today was about pages. First, Unlike other softwares, indesign allows us to have facing pages which makes it easier to make booklets. Second, Indesign has two types of pages- master page and printable page. The master page is a non-printable template that is used for making the other-printable pages. Anything that is put in this page will be appear in all the pages. It is used for adding elements like page numbers, taglines, and logos. We also learned the concept of [none] and A-master so that we could understand how to exclude some pages from the common input in the masterpage.
Further, we learned a lot about the text tool like text formats, font style, font size, font color, text background, leading, border, place holder, etc. I also learned some completely new and interesting concepts like adding columns, linking text boxes, text wrap etc.
We also learned about placing pictures..how to place pictures inside shapes and texts…how to select and place multiple images one by one and in a grid format.
Thus, today’s class made me realize the usefulness of indesign over other softwares for making booklets, brochures, magazines, etc.
