Space and Materiality (4)

Today, we did an abstraction activity. We first discussed what abstract means to us. In abstract art we try to depict something or give an effect or feeling of something indirectly, without literally representing it. We were asked to make abstract art while listening to different soundtracks. We were supposed to depict the feelings and emotions emitted by the particular song without actually drawing any shape, line or form. We were asked not to think a lot upon it and just let our hand flow. I made the pattern of my paintings corresponding to the beat of the music, and the colors relating to the feel of the song.

This exercise made my concept of abstraction clearer. It made me realize how the patterns, colors, symmetry, balance, etc. come together to give a meaning. Overall, this activity was really fun.
