For today’s class the faculty had asked us to try and complete 20 inner pages so that we don’t go through a lot of pressure towards the end, and also so that we receive a timely feedback on our layout. So, we all shared our screens one by one to show the layout we did so far. I had completed around 18 pages.

I liked where my layout was going, it was based on columns and had a very peculiar style and consistency. I also knew there was still a lot that could be improvised with it. i kept on changing and adding little things into it.

The feedback I received was that my layout wasn’t spatially balanced. The spreads looked emptier in the middle while most of the weight was on the sides. This feedback proved to be very helpful and I made a lot of changes accordingly.

This is the result after I increased the width of the white columns on the sides from 1/3rd to half of the page, Re-positioned the illustrations and added lined to add more drama and balance.

We were also asked to complete the cover page this week. The initial idea in my mind was to take a image of a historical trade scene, a market place, or even a map of trade routes. But this idea couldn’t work as most didn’t have enough resolution and none of them suited well. So i ended up making an illustration using pen tool in photoshop. I also made a few iterations because i wasn’t sure what looked best.
