In this class we discussed further about the layout where the faculty gave us very important little tips that would help enhance the look of the book. And here’s what i learned from them:
- margins are important and not just in terms of the pages but also for elements like pictures and text boxes. These little spaces would help the layout seem more neat and organized.
- There should be a fixed combination of colors to be used across all the pages. Colors should also be such that they go well with each other and combine to give the look and the vibe you are trying to depict in the book. An effective color scheme hence helps the book look unified and organised.
- coffee table books are more to be admired than read so its necessary that to balance the picture-text ratio in such a way that it looks engaging and attractive.
- there should be roper balance in the layout in terms of composing and placing everything.
- there should be unity in the layout of the book but it also shouldn’t be too repetitive. the style must remain the same but there can be minute differences on each of the spreads which will prevent the book from looking boringly monotonous.
She also reminded us to use a layout based on grids and columns.
