The eleventh class was out first online class! i didn’t know how we would go about it but it all went just fine! we had watched all the movies by now so we had another discussion on them. we first explained each of the plots and then the faculty asked us to point out 5 common elements in those movies for which we were a bit clueless in the beginning. with the help of the faculty and discussion of opinions with the group we came up with the following few elements.
- props
- bold women characters
- songs
- exaggeration of emotions
- costume
The faculty also pointed that researching about the actual context and background of those movies would help find the commonality and understand them more. so, i looked more into this time period and found that this period actually coincided with the golden period of cinema and and bollywood music!
One little problem we were facing in finding common elements is that the movie mughal-e-azam was not based on the actual time period and context as it was a historical movie.
Other elements I could think of after a research were:
- drama, melodrama genre
- rebel/dispute
- relationship between different classes
