In today’s class, we as a group, discussed what exactly would be done in our 2d map and divided the work amongst us. We then began working on it.
The faculty also discussed, how most of the groups have not been able to do their best. Either we’re not grasping the concept and the purpose of the project, or we are lagging in group unity and participation. Whatever the reason, we needed to get back on track.
Thus, we had another faculty visit us, who explained the brief again and gave us his perspective and his ideas on how the project is supposed to be going on. He reviewed every group’s work so far and gave us constructive feedback. He reminded us that we needed to understand and absorb the area and get something out of it that isn’t already known. I learned that we needed to refrain from following the popular notion and look for a peculiarity of the place that has remained unnoticed.
The 2d map is not about showing the landmarks and mapping out where exactly each place is. It’s about observing each part of the area, bringing out the relations and making sense out of it. All of this needs to be signified in the map in an abstract manner. And most importantly it has to be a learning experience.
She also explained us again what she expects from the symbols. They should be signifying and giving an essence of the area.
Today, we were also given a brief for the 3d map and what all materials could be used for it.
