In today’s class we continued the discussion on metaphors, that we had began in the seminar class. I had never in my school life thought upon the meaning and the purpose of metaphors. Today, it became clear to me what metaphors exactly are and how they can make a text so much more descriptive and interesting.
We were introduced to the activity called “who am I?”. We were asked to write 10-20 metaphors about our own self. This activity not only taught me about metaphors but also put me into a deep process of analyzing and understanding my own qualities. Although it was challenging, I found it very interesting to describe and explain myself through association.
Here are some of the metaphors I wrote, with their explanations:
“I am a cabbage” – There are many layers of my personality that you’ll have to reveal to get to know the real, hidden me. The closer you come, the more you’ll know about me.
“The world is a book and I read every page of it“- I love traveling and want to explore and feel the essence of different places.
“She is a closed book often judged by it’s cover” – Since I don’t open up a lot, people tend to form misguided opinions about me.
Further, we were asked to portray these metaphors in the form of abstract drawings. This was again a bit challenging, initially, but it became clearer as we went on with it.
